Comments: 54 Years ago tonight Barclay James Harvest we’re playing at Herriot Watt Universities Freshers dance in Edinburgh.That’s where I me t John Lees.The next day he sent a telegram asking me to phone him.When I did he told me he had written a song about me which would appear on the next album.It did a beautiful song called Vanessa Simmons on the Once Again Album released in February 1971.A beautiful song but very sad in many ways!

Comments: Just been to see the wonderful JLBJH at Islington, London. Despite enjoying BJH for so many years (since first hearing BJH on Radio Caroline), this is the first time I have seen John live. It was a wonderful and moving musical experience.

Comments: My husband and I have been fans of BJH for decades. This year we had the opportunity to see John Lees'BJH live on stage and we were absolutely thrilled! Not only was it a musical highlight, the band also made the audience feel like we were long-time friends or even family... In one of their anecdotes they mentioned the fact that "Cheap bullet" was banned by the BBC but we didn't quite understand the reason why. When trying to find further information on the internet, we discovered a list of all the songs that have been banned so far, but "Cheap bullet" was not on the list...Maybe there is a misunderstanding pn our part? My understanding is that whilst “Cheap The Bullet” wasn’t technically banned by the BBC, producers refused to play it because they misunderstood the lyrics, or thought that listeners might, and felt that lyrics like “just shoot and run” could be seen as encouraging gun violence! Never mind that the sentiment behind the song is actually the opposite! A pity, since the single was heading up the lower reaches of the charts at the time…

Comments: Really looking forward to seeing the genius John Lees bow out of live touring at Manchester RNCM on May 21st 2023. I’ve been a fan since University days in late 1970’s and have enjoyed seeing the band live many times. If pressed to choose a favourite track or period, I’d plump for ‘For No One’ and the albums released between 1974 and 1978, but all their music is fabulous - with meaningful lyrics to boot. JLBJH have been an important part of my life and long may it continue. After the sad departure of Woolly and Mel, I would also like to praise the current band members who are very talented - Craig, Jez, and Kev. I am also eagerly awaiting the new album. I would also love to hear JJ Lees’ cornet played much more in the future! I wish John and the band all the very best and hope to see them all again soon - your loyal fan.
