Latest Information on Shrewsbury Refunds

15th September, 2009

Latest update from Moray Council:

Officers from Moray Council Trading Standards met with Brian Davies of New Dawn Events week ending 11 September 2009. The reason given by him for the cancellation of the Memories of Woodstock and Crathes Castle events was a lack of ticket sales.

Mr Davies has stated that the delay in refunds to consumers who paid using the Paypal facility has been due to a technical issue in funding the companies Paypal account. He has however advised that steps have been taken which should allow refunds to commence by 30 September 2009. In addition Mr Davies has stated that he is processing approximately 15 credit card payment refunds per day and he intends to complete the process by 30 September 2009.

Moray Council Trading Standards will continue to monitor the situation however, despite a desire to help, we are not in a position to accept any further direct contact from consumers through out the UK.

Should you have written to Mr Davies and failed to receive a reply, our advice is to contact Trading Standards in your home area and seek help with trying to obtain a refund through your credit card provider if payment was made by this method, or with lodging a Small Claim in the appropriate court system. This advice is given not due to a lack of willingness to help on the part of Moray Council Trading Standards Department, but due to the limitations placed on our role as a result of Civil Legislation.

Trading Standards Advice re Festival Refunds

5th September, 2009

We have received the following advice from Moray Council Trading Standards for those who have not yet received refunds from the cancelled "Memories Of Woodstock" festival in Shrewsbury:

Moray Council Trading Standards are aware that Brian Davies of New Dawn Events is based within Moray and that he sold tickets for music events in August 2009 which were subsequently cancelled by him.

Contact has been made with Mr Davies and at this point in time he has agreed to meet with officers from this department week commencing 7 September 2009.

We have received reports that members of the public have made payment for tickets for these events and are encountering problems when trying to obtain a refund of monies paid. This issue will be raised with Mr Davies at the proposed meeting.

In the meantime we would give the following advise for people seeking a refund.

1. Customers need to identify and contact the business who actually sold them the ticket as their contract is with that business.

2. Please write to this business stating the details of your complaint and that you are now seeking a refund and giving a reasonable time for the refund to be supplied (we suggest 14 working days). Include copies of any previous documents and appropriate Reference Numbers.

3. Keep a record of this letter and send it by registered / recorded delivery. Send it to the business address and any other known addresses for the business concerned.

4. If you have purchased your ticket(s) with a UK credit card and the total value of the tickets were over £100 then you should contact your Credit Card company, and indicate that if you are unsuccessful with your claim for a refund that you will be holding the credit card company equally liable for breach of contract.

Once the meeting has taken place or when we have any further information and advice, we will make further contact and where possible details will be forwarded to anyone who has made contact with this department about this matter.

Unpaid Refunds for Memories of Woodstock Festival - Updated

27th August, 2009

Update - 2nd September: Aberdeen Trading Standards have advised that enquiries about unpaid refunds for the festival should be addressed to the Trading Standards Service at Moray Council in Elgin for their attention. Their email address is trading.standards@moray.gov.uk. They also suggest that claimants should contact their own local Trading Standards Service for further advice.

Although we have heard from a couple of people who have got their money back, it seems that the vast majority have received nothing, three weeks after the festival should have taken place.

Mr. Davies' address is:

Sorry that we can't be of more assistance, but hope that this method will produce results.

Memories of Woodstock Festival Cancelled

1st August, 2009

We're very sorry to report that the promoter of the "Memories Of Woodstock" festival in Shrewsbury has cancelled the entire weekend. His web site, http://www.new-dawn-events.co.uk/, is promising full refunds. An official statement from the band will follow as soon as possible.

JLBJH in Switzerland

23rd July, 2009

John Lees' Barclay James Harvest have announced another concert in their 2009 tour, this time in Switzerland. They play the Grand Casino in Basel on November 17th.

Spanish Festival Cancelled

22nd July, 2009

The AudioDénia Festival, at which John Lees' Barclay James Harvest were to have appeared on 6th September, has been cancelled. Unfortunately it seems that the recession is biting hard in Spain, with 22% unemployment, and the expat Brits have no money either because of the weak Pound.

Shrewsbury Goes Ahead

22nd July, 2009

The good news is that the Memories of Woodstock festival in Shrewsbury, which has been the subject of much speculation in the last couple of weeks, will go ahead. A number of acts, mainly from one management stable, who were billed for the Friday and Saturday, have pulled out, apparently because of concerns over health and safety and finances. We can confirm that John Lees' Barclay James Harvest will be performing with the National Symphony Orchestra at the festival as planned on Sunday, August 9th, after the band's manager satisfied himself that all contractual obligations had been met. Jethro Tull, Strawbs and Melanie are, we understand, also happy with the festival arrangements and will appear on the Sunday, too. Hope to see as many of you there as possible.

JLBJH dates in The Netherlands and Belgium

8th July, 2009

John Lees' Barclay James Harvest have just confirmed another two continental concerts on their 2009 tour, their first in The Netherlands and Belgium. On 23rd November, they will be playing the Boerderij in Zoetermeer, Netherlands, then on 24th November Le Kursaal in Limbourg, Belgium. We'll let you know when tickets go on sale.

Another German JLBJH date added

7th July, 2009

John Lees' Barclay James Harvest are looking forward to another concert in Germany on their 2009 tour. They will be playing the Festhalle Durlach in Karlsruhe on November 21st.

Gone To Earth LP Reissued

5th July, 2009

Gone To Earth has been re-released in Germany on 180g vinyl LP with the original cut-out album sleeve and artwork. One German online shop is offering it at a reduced (but still slightly eye-watering) price of €19.99 plus postage. Here's a link to the English translation of the relevant page:

JLBJH add another German date

1st July, 2009

John Lees' Barclay James Harvest have announced another concert in Germany on their 2009 tour. They play the Bad Aibling former US Base Airport Hangar on November 20th (near Munich).

Online Ticket Sales

24th June, 2009

It has come to our attention that some ticket reseller web sites are offering tickets for the autumn JLBJH tour at vastly inflated prices. These sites are often based abroad and have not been supplied with tickets by the band or their agents. We recommend that you only buy tickets direct from the venues or through the authorised outlets to which we link in our concert listings above.

Portuguese JLBJH Date Changed

19th June, 2009

Please note that the date of the John Lees' Barclay James Harvest concert at the Aula Magna, University of Lisbon, has had to be changed to Friday, October 9th. This is due to difficulties in arranging transportation for the band for the concert in Berlin on the day after the original Portuguese date. Apologies for any inconvenience caused ...

Tickets are available from http://www.ticketline.pt

JLBJH add a German date

1st June, 2009

John Lees' Barclay James Harvest have announced another concert in Germany on their 2009 tour. They play the Essen Weststadthalle (Thea-Laymann Strasse 23, Essen) on November 22nd.

JLBJH in Italy

15th May, 2009

John Lees' Barclay James Harvest have announced another concert in their 2009 tour, this time in Italy. They play the Live Music Club in Trezzo sull' Adda, which is 30km from Milan, on November 18th. The venue's web site (in Italian, naturally!) can be found at www.liveclub.it.

JLBJH in Germany!

7th May, 2009

It is with great pleasure that John Lees' Barclay James Harvest announce two concert appearances in Germany, the first since December 2000.

On Saturday 15th August 2009 the band will close the Homburg Festival near Saarbrücken, a large open air event with free admission with an attendance of 20,000.

On Sunday 4th October 2009, the band will be closing a special free concert event at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin which is being held to coincide with the final day of a series of large international events and conferences being held in Berlin that week. JLBJH will take the stage at approximately 7pm.

Further details of both events will be given as soon as websites for both events are on-line.

The group are looking forward immensely to performing to German audiences once more later this year.

Toronto Concert Cancelled

23rd April, 2009

It is with regret that due to unforeseen increased production costs the John Lees' Barclay James Harvest concert at the Opera House, Toronto on May 6th has been cancelled. John, Woolly, Craig, Kevin and Jez apologise to all fans for this inconvenience. Full refunds on tickets purchased will be sent out over the next seven days via PayPal.

The band will still be performing as headline act at the ROSFEST event on May 3rd in Glenside PA and look forward to seeing you there.

Orchestral Concert Confirmed

26th March, 2009

It is now confirmed that John Lees' Barclay James Harvest will be performing the second half of their set at Shrewsbury with the National Symphony Orchestra. This is a must-see concert, as it may be the only chance to see the band perform some rarely-heard material with an orchestra, and the line-up for the festival is immense!

The JLBJH performance will not be filmed, so the only way to see this unique performance is to be there.

Confirmed to play on the same bill as JLBJH on the Sunday are Melanie, the electric Strawbs and Jethro Tull. JLBJH will be on last - regardless of any other billing considerations, they will be the only band performing with the orchestra, so the logistics of changovers etc. dictate that they need to be on last.

The Friday line-up includes The Carl Palmer Band, Wetton-Downes iCon, Jefferson Starship, Steve Howe and Alvin Lee.

Saturday's bill boasts Mostly Autumn, Focus, Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash, It's A Beautiful Day, Jack Bruce, Robin Trower and Gary Husband and the original line-up of Asia.

The whole event will be held in an enormous 'Big Top'.

Prog at the BBC Programme

2nd January, 2009

Apologies to those who tuned in to BBC 4's Prog At The BBC programme (see below), expecting to see Barclay James Harvest. Despite BJH being billed to appear both in the Radio Times and on BBC Four's own web site, they didn't feature in tonight's programme at all. Unless they are included in the repeat at 0340 this morning or Tuesday 6th, it seems that the line-up of the programme was altered for some reason. If it's any consolation, Gentle Giant's advertised contribution also seems to have been cut ...
